- Start of post-graduate training as a research assistant at the Institute of Immunology of the University of Vienna, 1971
- Specialty training in internal medicine at the Deartment of Medicine II, University Hospital of Vienna, with rotation on specialty units for cardiology, rheumatology, hematology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, nephrology and oncology, 1974
- Specialist diploma with specialization in Hematology and Oncology, 1979
- Research and clinical fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, bone marrow transplantation, 1980
- Appointment as senior physician at the Department of Medicine II, University Hospital and head of a specialty ward for hematology/oncology, 1981
- Habilitation in Internal Medicine, 1982
- Appointment as §31 Professor for Internal Medicine with specialization in Oncology and iHematology,1984
- Appointment as Head of the Department of Medicine I, at the Wilhelminen Hospital, Vienna, 1990
- Development of the Department into a Center for Oncology, Hematology and Palliative Care with a new patient tract, adaptation of the outpatient clinics, day clinic, research center, the establishment of a tissue bank for the storage of bone marrow stem cells, and establishment of a Palliative Care Unit
